And just when I thought I can invite my friends  to use it, they shut down the invites!

So Im stuck being lonely in this new social network, which has still not stopped trending worldwide. Most of the reviews seemed very skeptical on whether this site will manage to gain the eyeballs and sustain the user inflow for a long time. After a rather lukewarm response to BUZZ and the largest migration of people (apparently) which happened to Facebook from Orkut, the question remains whether Google has finally found the formula for a FB-killer and a Twitter-assasinator.

Im trying to get a hang of the Google+ Ui for now, and it seems promising. The factor differentiating Google+ from Facebook and Twitter would be the share option customization where you can select exactly the circles to whom you want to show what you post. The “Circles” is more like a grouping your friend list into certain classes like Family, Friends, Acquaintance or just people whom you Follow.

The idea behind this is that people behave differently with different circles of people. You certainly don’t want to discuss what happened at the party you attended last night with your family, and you don’t want to be sharing embarrassing baby pictures with all your friends and you can share pics of you hard at work to your bosses. So this feature helps you to hide stuff from certain people.

Also you can classify people exactly the way you want to. You can name a circle “obnoxious” and put suitable people from your friend list in that without your friends having to know where you’ve placed them.

Also the profile and the look of the website is more pleasing and has a simple-ness to it, which is a typical Google trait, keeping it simple and stupid.

You have to auto connect with picasa to get into G+, which is quite a pain for people who have albums they don’t want to share with any people in their circles.

A “Sparks” button lets you to explore your interests. The +1 button is integrated to your G+ profile, which means people can see what you’ve liked before.

Pretty soon the phrase “Sure ill ‘Hangout’ with you” will have a different meaning, with the new feature of Hangout in G+ which allows you to have discussions with several people at once

But the plus factor is you can “take out” whatever you’ve updated or shared or worked with on G+ by clicking on the “Take out” button at the sign out.

All in all, Google+ looks pretty promising, but they will have to come up with more than just new sharing options and different terms for features which already exist in most of the other social networking sites. But, since its still in its Beta stage and its just been 2 days from its launch Im optimistic.

The exact middle spot between undersharing and oversharing seems to be the factor the people at Google are looking at.

I’m ready to quit Facebook and Google+ seems to have helped my cause at it.

After spending the past two summers watching some really great movies, I decided to make my own list of top 25 movies of all time. This is MY LIST, and the choices differ from person to person. You are more than welcome to sneer and boo the movies below, but these are my favourite.

25. The Great Escape(1963)

I watched this movie as a kid, and was totally blown away by it. The acting of the likes of Steve McQueen, Richard Attenborough and James Garner keeps you totally involved with the plot that revolves around the escape planned by a group of war prisoners during the world war 2 era. Based on a true story, their leader decides to try to take out several hundred all at once, from a heavily fortified German prison camp.

24. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels(1998)

A typical Guy Ritchie movie. Set in England, four guys pool their money in a high stakes card game and end up broke. But the story doesnt end there, there are a bunch of marijuana growers, a black underworld don, a group of thugs and two antique guns which help saving these guys’ asses. One of the most funniest movies Ive seen.

23. L.A. Confidential(1997)

You might think Kung Fu Panda being ranked above Pulp Fiction must be an accident. But as master Oogway says “There are no accidents…” Kickass animation, awesome characterisation, unintentionally and intentionally witty dialogues, and Jack Black give us our favourite panda. Great movie.

Emotionally withdrawn Joel Barish (Jim Carrey) and unhinged free spirit Clementine Kruczynski (Kate Winslet) strike up a relationship on a Long Island Rail Road train. They are inexplicably drawn to each other, despite their radically different personalities. 

Although they apparently do not realize it at the time, Joel and Clementine are in fact former lovers, now separated after having spent two years together. After a nasty fight, Clementine hires a firm Lacuna, Inc. to erase all her memories of their relationship. Upon discovering this, Joel is devastated and decides to undergo the procedure himself, a process that takes place while he sleeps.

Much of the film takes place in Joel’s mind. As his memories are erased, Joel finds himself revisiting them in reverse. Upon seeing happier times of his relationship with Clementine from earlier in their relationship, he struggles to preserve at least some memory of her and his love for her. Despite his efforts, the memories are slowly erased, with the last memory of Clementine telling him to “Meet me in Montauk”.

Inception like movie.

Its a bit too late to talk about first impressions and the thoughts on college( which by now i hope you all know its RV), so I will spare you  from the boredom about the cliched details and quickly get to the point.

I’m back in the wilderness of boredom as I successfully managed to walk out of my last exam of 3rd sem. I have almost a month to do something “worth while”, which in an engineering students language translates to internships and “projects”.

But as an eternal no-hoper and a lazy ass, I’m stuck being jobless and ridden with lots of thoughts to share, with nobody to listen to them. So how else, but to use my non existant blogging skills to share my musings.

Long story short, heres a list of things I learnt in the past year,

1. Engineering- Not a piece of cake, yet another spoke in the wheel of pointless cramming.

When I was in 12th, almost everybody use to say “slog hard this year and your literally done slogging for good!”. Well, heres the true story, engineering is just as equally bad as your 10th or a 12th. We used to study once a year before, now we study twice a year

2. At the end of the day, if youve spent more than 4 hours in front of a book, that day is not well spent.

This does not apply during exams, but in general, once your out of 12th and your 18 it doesnt make sense still sitting in front of books and studying your brains out everyday! Contrary to popular belief studying the previous day totally works!

3. Marks dont matter.

“Dont ask a woman her age, and an engineer his GPA”. Nobody really cares whether your a topper or not. Now is the time to live life, specially if your in a VTU college

4. Never stop trying new things.(If you know what i mean *wink wink*)

5. Do one thing everyday which scares the hell out of you.

6. Do NOT worry about attendance! BUNK!*

7. Be good to teachers.

Trust me, being a dick and playing pranks on teachers is seriously overrated. At the end of the day, they control your marks(this is strictly for people in “autonomous” colleges only)

First was the 2nd PU board exams. The boredom surrounding the preparation for this much hyped up exam is something i really cant explain.The secret lies in gutting . You either memorise and hope it stays in your mind for 3hrs or you pray to lord and hope that your hanebaraha(luck) is good enough for a decent performance. Basically its stuffing the whole textbook in every nook and cranny of the temporary memory of your brain and trying to replicate the exact sentences(or so called “key words”:P) in your answer paper in 3hrs and walk out of the exam hall in one piece. You do all this with a neat handwriting you are sure to land up in the 90s. The 3 week duration of the exams was the most tiring (mentally) part of my whole 2yrs in college. I was totally relieved after my last exam. My head literally felt like it had lost a few pounds

Then was the JEE. Probably the toughest entrance exam ever to any institution. 2 years of hard(extremely hard!) work being tested in a 6 hour paper consisting of the most challenging questions youll ever face. Im still getting over the disappointment of not doing well in it. Ill say its definitely not for the faint hearted and leave it at that.

AIEEE was relatively easier for me. And i still havent come to terms on how i performed so pathetically in that. Basically meant for the CBSE nerds.

Finally it was KCET. Idiots, who havent heard of IIT and AIEEE, consider this as one of the toughest tests ever(LMAO!!). I was totally uninterested to prepare for this one. I was very sure of my good preformance in the 3e. So I just glanced through my PU and other humongous CET books (dont judge a book by its size ) and tried to recall the stuff i had rutted a month back for the boards. CET is the real test for all those nerds who by-heart their way into getting 100% in PCM. One requires quick thinking and a tiny, iotic bit of common sense and intelligence to solve these questions which is the one major thing the “gutters” lack. And so, people with fantastic scores in boards end up getting some uber lame ranks in CET. People attend PU coaching for 2 yrs and set apart just a month for preparation of CET. Well i did the complete opposite. Actually, i hadnt prepared for CET at all. Unlike other exams, this one consists of separate papers for physics, math and chem. And its conducted for 2days. All three papers were easy , but this time around the difficulty level was slightly higher compared to prev years.

Yup…finally freedom…after 2 short(hehe..) years of prep and 3 long exams it was time to paaarrrrttttyyyy!!!!!

As my jee and 3e results showed me, i had performed disastrously. My hanebaraha had taken a beating:(

PS: I managed to get a rank of 276 in CET and get my ass into the EML in JEE….

I had decided not to take up metallurgy at nitk suratkal. Computer science is really my thing. I called up the institute to ask for the refund of my admission fees.

ME: hello, naan bengaluru inda maatadtha irodu (im calling from blore), ive called to enquire about 2 things…firstly, 5th round counselling idya??

PERSON ON PHONE (P O P): haan untu….yeah…

ME: oh ok, and the other thing is i dint get the branch i wanted and so i was wondering when ill get my money back when i cancel my admission…

P O P: which branch did u get??

ME: metallurgy

P O P: are u nuts to cancel ur admission???….leave today only…what the hell are u doing in blore??…its a golden branch…

ME: but ive got comp science in RVCE..

P O P: why the hell do u compare NITK to RV….just come….

ME: hmmm ok…

I kept the phone and started contemplating. Should i go??. I talked to my parents regarding this. My mom was totally against the idea of me taking up metallurgy. Also i had no interest at all in the branch. So i decided to stick to the branch rather than the institute. Spending four years in NITK studying something i have no interest in dint sound to me like the life i wanted or imagined. So i decided to stay in blore and join RVCE and pursue the course i like, in the best college in bangalore.

The fun part has been that i watched HP6, which was amazing by the way, and hanging out with your close friends and going bowling and on long drives and other stuff. I spent quality time with my family, specially my mom.

The boredom part is where i get up every morning/afternoon having no idea of what i must do that day and end up watching boring reality tv and shows such as friends over and over again. And not to forget the part where I start typing my blog, like this one for instance, boredom is the fuel to the new born writer (typer to be appropriate) in me.

I started watching prison break from season 1 and ive got hooked on to it. And also am currently almost done wid the second book of twilight.
